Red Set to Modernise Volunteering
Red Foundation is to be in a partnership led by Volunteering England that has recently been appointed by Capacity Builders to run the new National Support Service to modernise volunteering. This exciting development will see Red work together with national volunteering charities CSV and v, and the Nationwide Foundation as well as Volunteering England. The partners will engage in a range of work strands to develop new learning and ways of working, through research, case studies, pilot projects and campaigns, to promote a modernisation agenda that will encourage volunteering organisations to embrace new ways of involving volunteers and ensure a sustainable legacy to the programme. There will be four themes in the Modernising Volunteering National Support Service and Red Foundation will be leading the delivery of the theme that will look at developing new models of volunteering, which will include exploring the potential of social networks, such as FaceBook, to engage people in community activity. Other themes will include volunteering and faith and diversity and securing non financial support from the corporate sector.
Red Foundation’s managing director Jamie Thomas said ‘This is a great opportunity for Red as a new organisation and we’re delighted to be working alongside such esteemed partners. We’re particularly looking forward to exploring the potential to harness the current phenomena of social networking as a means to engage new volunteers as we believe this will provide huge opportunities for the sector over the coming years.’
The new ‘Modernising Volunteering’ National Support Service will be funded by Capacity Builders from April 2008 and will run for three years. For more information visit Capacity Builders' website.
