Chris Penberthy
Chris has worked in the voluntary sector for 20 years and is a lifelong volunteer with a background in youth work, community development and homelessness in both local and national charities.
In 2001 Chris was appointed as Chief Executive of the National Association of Volunteer Bureaux (NAVB). During his 3 years there he generated over £3m new funding, created the development of Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation and led the organisation into a merger with the National Centre for Volunteering to create Volunteering England. Following the merger Chris became Director of Capacity Building and Infrastructure Development, and later Director of Strategy and Planning, where he led the development and implementation of the Volunteer Centre brand and the £1m Volunteer Point programme. He also had responsibility for the development and management of the Volunteering Hub, and the development of the national and regional bodies of the England Volunteering Development Council. In 2006, Chris supported the creation of the Commission on the Future of Volunteering.
Chris is Treasurer of Youth Action Network and a Lead Organiser for Plymouth Twestival. He was formerly Chair of the South West Regional England Volunteering Development Council and was Chair of the Consortium of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Voluntary and Community Organisations, where he was also the Board level champion for Volunteering. In 2005 Chris was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in recognition of his services to the sector.
Since joining Red as a director, Chris has worked on a range of projects. His expertise in strategic planning, infrastructure, volunteering and organisational development has been used by clients in both the third and public sectors.
